Kiana, my 4-year old niece, invaded my murse while I was talking to her mom regarding our family's medical history one day. She saw the unwrapped lollipop which has bubblegum inside and begged me to tear off the wrapper for her. She then continued sucking on it until she reached the gum and chewed loudly as we were also watching cartoons over the cable TV.
When she asked me to throw away the plastic handle, I asked her what she did with the bubblegum. She promptly replied, "nilunok ko po," to the dismay of my Tita. She then continued on lamenting the fact that it will sit on her stomach for years undigested.
I have believed in this old wive's tale for so long. I am so paranoid to swallow the gum (even if by accident) thus making me conscious whenever there's one in my mouth. More so, I always (okay, almost always) prepare a piece of paper in a square form or a tissue napkin to hold the chewed gum after it has served its purpose. I, then, gingerly place it in the middle and form the square paper/napkin into a big candy, twisting its sides to secure the gum's place. Call it OCD or something.
Recently, however, I found an article over at the New York Times saying that it's practically safe for anyone, including children, to swallow a chewing gum. But, (yes, there is a but), some rare complications may occur daw.
I shared this to my Tita knowing that she might turn into a doctor for help regarding this incident.Soon, we found out that Kiana was lying. She didn't actually swallow the gum--it was stretched and attached to her curly locks all this time.
The best of it all is that she still managed to let out a chuckle as I was getting my pair of scissors knowing that she has fooled me. Dumbass ito.

I love coffee in the morning. Sometimes I also do tea. But it's really a hit or miss whenever I find myself fixing one for my consumption. Good thing there's a Pantone-like mug called MyCuppa.
I plan to buy new pairs of chucks for myself. Ever since my brother borrowed my sneaks collection, I cannot actually wear them all over again. I don't wear something that I gave away. Parang it will be like a hand-me-up, a thing that you gave away to your younger siblings but found its way back at you. Okay, so that's kaartehan, but another reason for me not to wear them is because my favoritest pairs have expanded like crazy (my brother's feet are enormous!) and it doesn't fit me well like they formerly did. I abhor the idea of having paltos (blisters?) all over.
My present shoe rack horizontally displays my shoes; however, I need to opt for a vertical one because horizonal types hoard so much floor area. But I have to find one that is within my meager budget. After minutes of visiting my favorite DIY sites, I found the perfect shoe storage solution for people (like me) who wanted to make good use of their living space. It's a piggybacked idea from this shoe rack; nevertheless, it's something a third-world citizen like me can follow easily and within the confines of my budget. I might even score most of the items needed in making the frugal shoe rack from our tool shed so I need not worry that much.
I love her lip balm recipe, too. I never thought that lip balms were that easy to make! I just have to find a local supplier for beeswax and I'm good to go (I have most ingredients at tools at home). It would be great as presents this coming Christmas season (great protection for the weather that season as well) to my female friends and choir members.
I really, really wuv Real Simple. They make my life easy. The magazine packs literally tons of ingenious ideas for almost everyone especially homemakers. I buy my copies, albeit past issues, at a nearby Book Sale outlet at Harrison Plaza. (Thank you, Book Sale, for even lowering the already frugal tag price on the past issues for me!) Their website featured an article, under their Life Skills section, on surprising new uses for everyday items found in your home.
My favorite suggestion from their list? Write your name on "Hello, My Name Is" tags and sticking them inside book covers so borrowers know where to return my best sellers. I always lend my books that's why I mark this down as my favoritest of all. ^_^
Recently I always take a cab when shuttling from home to our rented place. It's convenient and fast (translation: tamad, hehe); however, there are perils of riding a cabbie when you're alone.
My Kuya Mark always tells me to text to every single member of our family that I have boarded a taxi cab and its name and plate number. You can find those painted in the inner side of the cab. I, on the other hand, also take a picture of the plate number and the taxi driver and send it as an email to myself.
There's also the question of where to sit just for precautionary measure. Most of the time I sit at the passenger seat while I always ask the driver if I could lock the other doors. My cousin, who is a keen observer, urged me to sit directly behind the driver. Why? In case the driver plans something bad to you, there is a big possibility that he cannot reach you instantly to stuck a knife at your face or whatever while you can open the door to your left and run away as fast as you can.
Of course not all drivers are bad pero kasi baka matiyempuhan. One thing that I never forget to do when I get to my destination safe and sound: I say thank you to the drivers with a smile after paying the tab.

We were living as lower class citizens. We don't have enough resources at our disposal to amp up our style. My sister encouraged us to do crafty things from our old raggedy jeans. There is like a closetful of denim jeans in our house so we made sure we get the right kind of blue jeans for our DIY project. Maalikabok noon, naaalala ko. We still had to wash the jeans then na sobrang kunat yata because of the mothballs (naptalina) that my Inang Maria (granny) used to make suk-sok sa mga corners ng aming closets.
As the blue jeans dried up, my ate went on her way to make us some bags. She made herself some cute tote bag while I got some lunch bag of my own. Of course I helped her through the process. I was her enabler all the time, or a help. Anyways, what she made for us was cute and it became an instant hit in the campus. But that was the 90's so trends started there might stage a comeback but are definitely not considered fashionable today.
I made some rounds on the net and found this cute way of recycling your old denims. We still have a closetful of jeans so I might try making one on this rainy afternoon just to kill some time.
